The South Indian Education Society (SIES) is one of the oldest educational societies in India and was founded by Shri. M. V. Venkateshwaran in 1932. It is established with the vision of facilitating a ‘Student Centred Environment’, where learners’ intellectual, cultural, social, physical, and recreational needs are fulfilled. It has become a conglomerate of various institutions like a high school, an array of arts, science, commerce, management, and engineering colleges, along with academic and professional institutions of higher learning with over 18,000 students under its wing. Also in the social service field, it is not behind and has established SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Veda Pathashala and SIES Seniors’ Home.
The SIES Arts, Science and Commerce College was inaugurated on 20th of June 1960 by Shri Y. B. Chavan, the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra to serve the ever-growing educational needs of students from North and Central Mumbai Suburbs. Affiliated to the University of Mumbai, the college has an impressive strength of over 4,000 students drawn from all sections of this cosmopolitan city. It has been reaccredited with ‘A’ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a CGPA score of 3.51 in third cycle of 2015. The college has conferred with ‘Empowered Autonomous Status’ by the University Grants Commission on 1st June 2018 and on 30th June 2018 by the University of Mumbai. Excellent results at various University and Board examinations, and coveted awards and merit positions bagged by the students have placed the SIES College among the most outstanding and leading institutions in the city. The college has attained its position due to commitment and dedication of Principals and unstinted support from their competent and highly qualified colleagues who have given their very best to the learners and to the institution. The students at the college, with their exemplary discipline, serious academics, extra and co-curricular pursuits, and excellent rapport with their teachers, have greatly contributed to make this college a name to reckon within the academics and other fields.
